The Belfry is a local bar owned by Celina Tio, a James Beard Award Winning Chef. While casual, the food and drink are top-notch and innovative. Whiskey is key, with a carefully curated collection of bottles. I wanted to capture this spirit with a casual clipboard menu. I used a twist on a blackletter font to recall the feel of an English pub. Combined with friendly serifs, the typography is clean and approachable. I layered colored papers in an unexpected, but cleanly organized manner. The Belfry is notoriously dark, so I layered the pages in a way that made them easily legible by candlelight – no phone flashlights needed. While the menu has unique touches, it is overall very simple to produce and change out with the seasons (or the spill of a beer).
